Welcome to the exciting world of pole dancing! If you’re gearing up for your first pole dancing class, you may have questions about what to wear, what to bring, and how to prepare. In this article, we’ll provide you with helpful information and guidelines to ensure you’re ready for an amazing experience during your first pole dancing class.

Getting Ready for Your First Pole Dancing Class

Upon your arrival

Plan the time so that you can be at class for your pole dancing lesson, 15 minutes before the start of the course. Especially if it is your first time here, you will need to fill out registration forms.

Being earlier in the area, you will be able to familiarise yourself and choose the pole where you’ll practice.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to discuss with the instructor and your classmates, before the start of the lesson and break the ice.

If you arrive at school 15 minutes after the start of the course you might not be allowed to enter the classroom. This is purely for safety reasons because you will have missed the chance to warm up properly.

Do not use body/hand lotion

This is something that must be strictly followed! Hand cream, oils, moisturizing, etc. will make the pole slippery and dangerous. Try opting out of all these products on the day of the lesson.

What do I need to wear for my First Pole Dancing Class?

When it comes to attire for a pole dancing lesson, it’s important to wear clothing that allows for freedom of movement and provides grip on the pole.

Shorts

Opt for comfortable shorts and allow your legs to grip the pole easily. Choose shorts that are not too loose to avoid any interference during spins and tricks.

Sports Bra or Tank Top

Wear a sports bra or a fitted tank top that provides support and allows for unrestricted movement of your upper body. This will help you feel more comfortable and confident during your pole dancing routine.

Bare Feet or Heels

Depending on your preference and the style of dance you’re learning, you can either go barefoot or wear heels. Bare feet provide a better grip on the pole, while heels can add an element of style and elegance to your movements.

Remember, different studios may have specific dress codes, so it’s always a good idea to check with your instructor or the studio beforehand for any specific requirements or recommendations. Ultimately, choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident, and allows you to move freely during your pole dancing lesson.

What you should have with you for your First Pole Dancing Class

A bottle of water

It is most likely that you will need water after the lesson and perhaps the school may not have been a cooler. If there is a cooler in school, if you get thirsty during the course, there may not be time to leave the class to drink water. Firmly close the bottle when not in use. A wet floor is dangerous for your safety.

Two small towels

Will be useful not only to clean yourself from sweat but also to clean your pole.

Prohibited Items for your First Pole Dancing Class

Leave your jewellery at home

In general, the less jewelry the better. It may be lost or you might injure yourself. In addition, the contact of jewelry (especially the rings) with the pole will create scratches destroying its coating.

Turn off your mobile phone

This is something that is rigorously applied in all classrooms, not just in pole dancing lessons. If you need to call, please inform the instructor and excuse yourself to go out of the classroom and talk.

Food, gum, and drinks

(other than water) are prohibited within the premises of the school. If for any reason you want to eat before or after the lesson, you can do that in the reception or the changing rooms. Remember to bring something with you because the schools do not sell any kind of food or snacks.

Hygiene Etiquette and Considerations

Although obvious, it is equally important! We are never really ready for the pole dancing lesson if we do not care for our hygiene.

  • If possible, take a shower before the lesson.
  • Wear clean clothes and deodorant.
  • Avoid the strong aromas that may annoy those around you.
  • Deal with bad breath by brushing your teeth or if it’s too late, chew gum.

Embracing a Positive Attitude for your first pole dancing class

A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and results. It is a catalytic gift that produces stunning results. Sometimes we think that we can do something but our body is not ready.

With Pole Dancing you don’t learn skills that you have not got already. You will learn how to develop those skills!
